Surface Characteristics and Climate
The hills surrounding Kocaeli plateau are about 200 m. Height. These hills lies to the west of Izmit. These hills go away from Izmit Gulf in the west and they make a wide plain surface. This plain surface affected the forming and developing of settlements that suitable for agriculture like Derince, Yarimca, Kalburcu, and Tütünciftlik. But in Hereke the hills suddenly come nearer to the coast. In Hereke only narrow sides of the brooks and delta's near seaside are appropriate for settlement. The hills suddenly rise in the coast but northerly they declined slowly.
Hereke's climate has both Mediterranean and Black Sea characteristics. The south slopes have Mediterranean effects. But the summer isn't very hot and dry. In summer, Hereke is warmer than its neighbors, because the mountains in the north surround it.
As it can be seen, Hereke is preparing for performing the one of the most interesting duty of Turkish Weaving Industry in a unsuitable narrow settlement place that surrounded by hills and sea. |
